Mechanism of action

Recombinant somatropin is structurally identical to pituitary-derived human growth hormone (191 amino acids, single chain). It binds the GH receptor causing receptor dimerization and JAK2/STAT5 activation, driving hepatic IGF-1 production and direct tissue effects including protein anabolism, lipolysis, gluconeogenesis, and skeletal/connective tissue growth.

Research notes

  • IGF-1 production: Primary research target — well-characterized dose-response relationship in animal and human models.
  • Body composition: Numerous studies on lean mass accretion and visceral fat reduction over extended protocols.
  • GH deficiency models: Extensively studied in adult-onset GHD with documented improvements in body composition and quality of life markers.
  • Anti-aging: GH/IGF-1 axis modulation extensively studied in longevity and age-related decline models.
  • Wound healing: GH receptor expressed in fibroblasts; accelerated wound repair associated with GH signaling.
